Research
Summary In
addition to the experiences of the design group with
the airlines, extensive research on cabin environments
and seating was necessary. After forming a problem
statement to formulate a desired end goal, teams began
research into various areas to gain a strong understanding
and appreciation why items inside the cabin are currently
built the way they are (cost, materials, regulations,
etc). It also afforded the group the ability to see
areas where improvement might be possible.
Drawing
Objectives This
list was developed from initial research to categorize
and prioritize items for improvement of coach class,
airline seating. The list was a guide to determine where
(and in what amount) efforts would be focused on development
and where priorities would lie when compromise was necessary.
Directive
Survey An
early IRB approved survey (complete with consent form)
was necessary at Georgia Tech to disseminate to passengers
at Hartsfield International Airport. The
survey was aimed at guiding the design team towards the
general publics' opinions and requests concerning coach
class seating comfort (or lack thereof).
Usability
Testing This
powerpoint was used to communicate the usability and
comfort testing conducted. The testing utilized
participants of a stratified sample (ensuring inclusion
of extreme body shapes, sizes and both genders) to
produce the intangibles of bar-none advice and problem
area detection; only
capable with a physical full-scale model.
Project
Review Attached
is the project summary for the seating group which included
Darren Hough and myself.
